Green building has long been tagged as an expensive luxury. Today, there are numerous projects around the country that are working to reverse that stigma, mostly through affordable housing projects. The City of Los Angeles is focused on building green affordable homes through a number of local projects. Casa Dominguez, on the border of Compton, is one of the latest local California projects to incorporate numerous green building features for their residents. Dual-flush toilets, CFL light bulbs, eco-friendly flooring, solar-powered common areas, and the re-use of laundry water for landscaping are just a few green features highlighted at Casa Dominguez. The residents are just as positively affected as the environment, admitting that the tone of the project has caused them to recycle for the first time and use eco-friendly cleaners and products.
