Various States throughout the country are beginning to commit themselves to implementing green practices. Numerous States have passed legislation requiring more energy efficient building practices while others have created various incentive programs encouraging homeowners to invest in a greener lifestyle. Today, the State of Colorado took a very bold step by signing a piece of legislation that will require 30% of the state’s energy mix to come from renewable sources by 2020. Over the next ten years, nearly a third of their energy power will come from clean sources such as wind and solar. Colorado stated that not only will this legislation cut their State’s emissions, it will create tens of thousands of new jobs and millions of dollar in State revenue. Los Angeles Leads U.S. Boom In Energy Star Commercial Buildings

Today, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency awarded the City of Los Angeles for building the most Energy Star certified buildings in 2009 of any U.S. City. Commercial buildings contribute significantly to global carbon emissions and so it is quite a meaningful step that during the past ten years of the Energy Star program, 9,000 buildings have been built to meet their standards. Washington D.C., San Francisco, Denver, Chicago, and Houston trail L.A. on the list. Read this list to see if your City falls in the top 25.
