Groups in both the public and private sectors are expanding incentives for consumers who “go green.” Various programs throughout the country are paying Americans who choose to live a green life by recycling, saving energy and investing in energy-efficient products and systems. CVS, the States of New York and Connecticut, and a company called RecycleBank are some examples of the variety of industries and sectors that are offering incentives on the green life. Will You Turn Off the Lights for Earth Hour? Millions Plan to Flip Switch Saturday

Tomorrow evening, millions of U.S. homes, 2,200 businesses, 45 landmarks and 30 States will turn off non-essential lights in commemoration of Earth Hour. This event is meant to bring awareness to the environmental movement, encouraging individuals to recognize their power to make a difference. Last year, 4,000 cities across 47 countries turned the lights off in official buildings, and event organizers hope that number will increase this year, making an even larger impact for environmental awareness. Austin Aiming for a Grid Makeover

Today, the City of Austin, TX announced a set of recommendations that would give its electrical grid system a huge make over. The have based their project on the notion that in order to make a significant impact, the basic business model of increasing revenues as homeowners use more energy, needs to be challenged. City officials are looking into finding ways to change that, encouraging more efficiency uses of energy throughout Austin. This project, named the Pecan Street Project, has received a great deal of national attention, with many advocates claiming that it can potentially develop into a national model program.
